FAQ Page:
First of all let me start by saying that this site is in no way affiliated with Maxis or EA Games. Now that we got that out of the way I ask that you read the following information carefully. I will try to cover as much information as possible. So here it goes.
General Information -
1. What is this site about/What can I download on your site?
Well I created this site to provide custom content for the computer game The Sims 1.
2. Do you have stuff for The Sims 2?
Nope, I don't yet.
3. Once I download the file what do I do with it?
Well first things first. You will need a program called WinZip to open up the file you download from the site since it is in .zip format. In newer computers you might not need the program. Once you have the file and assuming you got WinZip installed in your computer you will extract your file to the GameData/Objects folder located in the Maxis folder, located in the drive where you installed the game, generally that is in drive C:. Here are the folders most commonly used:
C:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims\GameData\Objects
C:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims\GameData\Skins
C:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims\GameData\Floors
C:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims\GameData\Walls
C:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims\GameData\Roofs
4. I click on the download button and I get an error page, what should I do?
Well there are a couple of reasons why that happens. One is that there are too many people on the web site using the bandwidth, or there is a broken link. Sometimes I make mistakes and add wrong links, misspell something or forget to add the file. If this is the case it will tell you that the file you are looking for doesn't exist. Please contact me to report broken links. You can go to the Contact page to see how to contact me.
Game Related Issues -
1. My game crashes, what can I do?
Well game crashes happen for several reasons as well. The most common is an object ID conflict. That happens when 2 objects have the same ID. You can use a very easy to use program named Object ID. It will search your downloads folder and give you a list of which 2 objects contain the conflict. All you have to do is open it and change the ID, save and you are done. You can find a more detailed instruction of how to use Object ID if you visit the many wonderful forums out there. If you ran Object ID, fixed the conflicts but your game still crashes. Then I recommend you visit one of the wonderful forums in the community and either read the resources there or post your question there.
2. Why do creators don't change the ID's themselves so the game doesn't crash?
That is because no 2 persons have the exact same objects in their game. Most of the time, most creators take out all of their custom objects from their game when they create. Why you ask? Well that allows for the game to load faster. And when you test an object for bleeding and such you want your game to load in seconds LOL. And even if I add all of my custom objects to the game there is still no guarantee that you will have the same objects so ID conflicts is a problem we need to deal with individually.
***Note*** New creators and recolorers. Get a Magic Cookie number to help prevent too many ID conflicts.
Further information. I test my objects in my game and work fine. I am not liable for any problems in your game that arise from adding my creations to your game. My objects are mainly for deco purposes I don't play the simmies at all. So some objects when used by your sims might look funny.
Cloning, recoloring and file sharing -
1. Can I recolor your goodies?
You can recolor my free, original(made by me) goodies with permission. You can e-mail me for that, and also give me credit and link back to the site.
If you want to recolor any of the goodies over at the recolors site. You will have to contact the original creator to ask for permission.
The things featured on the Donation page are not to be recolored or cloned in anyway. I truly appreciate your understanding and loyalty in this situation :)
As far as file sharing is concerned. Free objects can be requested over at The Coconut Hut forum. Donation objects are not FSF.
2. Why can I share the stuff in your donations page?
I want to elaborate a bit on the Pay Site and Donation items. I know that a lot of people don't think sub sites are fair. And I also have seen a lot of people quote the Maxis EULA, I know that the bases are all originally from the game but the graphics used to create new goodies are all made by me. I don't mean the 3d mesh itself. I mean I work on the mesh to produce the renders that will become the new object. I later use those renders and add them to the game. I have to position the object the right way and test it in the game for bleeding. It can take an estimated 3 days or more to create a set. And for those creators out there that make them functional I bet it takes them longer. So please consider this.
Sites monthly are not that expensive but they do cost money. I don't expect you guys to pay for that though.
3D Models are expensive though. I know there are plenty of models for free out there, but the best of the best are expensive and if you help me a bit I can bring better quality objects for your simmies and you of course.
If you have further questions visit the contact page and e-mail me.
Hugs,
Linda
